Maintaining an Even Keel in Recovery
Emotional resilience is probably the most important quality a person in a program of recovery can possess. A resilient individual has healthy methods for coping with ups and down of modern life. One of the primary goals of counseling during treatment should be to assess the person’s level of emotional resilience and discuss effective coping strategies.
This article from The Telegraph explores the role of emotional resilience in our lives:
Resilience, explains Prof Richard Williams, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the University of South Wales, comes from the Latin resilio, which means to jump (or bounce) back. Now, emotional resilience measures our ability to cope with or adapt to stressful situations or crises – be this a hurricane in Kathmandu or an A-level exam in Kingston. Indeed, says Prof Williams, the two situations aren’t so different – rather, they’re on a “spectrum of adversity”.
Emotional resilience: it’s the armour you need for modern life

At Arrowhead Lodge Recovery we have master’s level licensed therapists on staff who help our clients to become stronger mentally, physically and perhaps most important emotionally.
Individual and Group Therapy with Licensed Therapists
At Arrowhead Lodge Recovery, a master’s level, licensed therapist does individual and group therapy. Our BHT’s (behavioral health technicians) do book studies and some psycho-education, but not therapy.
The State of Arizona has no education nor licensing requirements for a behavioral health technician; therefore, anyone can be a BHT and do therapy.
Most alcohol and drug rehab centers have BHT’s facilitate group therapy sessions. Some even have BHT’s doing individual therapy. This lowers their cost at the expense of the quality of care for clients. At Arrowhead Lodge Recovery, only licensed therapists do individual and group therapy.
Arrowhead Lodge Recovery: Privacy and Seclusion Equal a Safe Therapeutic Environment
Privacy and seclusion equals a safe therapeutic environment
Most men have buried their emotions so deeply that they become out of touch with their true nature, as well as those who are closest to them. They stay “busy” doing things; working, achieving, reading email, surfing the web, watching TV, Netflix and much, much more. What these men need in order to heal from their addiction is a place where there are no distractions like internet, email, cell phones and “busyness” in general.
A private mountain retreat offering quiet, seclusion and spaciousness allows our clients to unplug so they can “hear” their quiet, inner voice and discover their authentic Self. That is when the healing starts.
Arrowhead Lodge Recovery is tucked away in the Rocky Mountain pines of Northern Arizona. It is a man’s retreat from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. Our clients feel safe here and are therefore able to open up and work on tough emotional issues around addiction and trauma.
There is something to be said about recovering in a natural setting where the deer graze, coyotes howl, and hawks and eagles soar that helps men reconnect with nature and their authenticity. It’s difficult to describe just how exquisite Arrowhead Lodge Recovery is – one needs to be here to experience it firsthand.
