| The Baby Boomer generation is increasingly being prescribed strong opioid painkillers. Many go on to become addicted to their painkiller medication. At Arrowhead Lodge Recovery, we treat opioid prescription painkiller addiction, opioid addiction and heroin addiction in men over 30. Most of our clients are men in their late 40’s to 60’s and older.

Our recovery facility is gender specific for men only. We have found this works best for our clients. Take away the drugs and alcohol, and substance abusers typically resort to romantic relationships in an attempt to self-medicate. In a co-ed drug and alcohol setting, most men try to impress the female clients and vice versa. Flirtatious communication between men and women not only distract them from the real issues, it can lead to other things.
“The future of medical practice will be behavioral health and addiction; it’s such a critical area.”
Baby Boomers Increasingly Abusing Drugs – Particularly Pain Pills
An article in Chicago Health Online details the issue: “The Wall Street Journal reported that the baby boomer generation, which numbers around 76 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964, is increasingly abusing drugs—particularly pain pills—and dying from overdoses…
The CDC states that since 1999, Americans haven’t reported a difference in the pain they experience. And yet, the number of painkillers prescribed and sold in the country has nearly quadrupled. That, coupled with the known predilection of the baby boomer generation toward mind-altering substances, along with the generation’s aging and the natural pains that come along with it, sets the stage for a growing problem.”
